100 Years of Bhutan Monarchy:
In 2008, Bhutan will step into a new era with some major historical events taking place in the same year. With the inception of monarchy in 1907, Bhutan saw unprecedented happiness and development under the guidance of Wangchuk Dynasty. The successful monarchial rule has completed 100 years and the whole nation will mark this event with pride and appreciation. The other historical events in 2008 will be the coronation of the fifth king and the introduction of the Democratic form of government.
For the first time in the history of the kingdom, Bhutanese people would be casting their vote for the newly formed political parties as the monarchs believe in active public participation for the nation’s growth.
The year 2008 will be full of fun with unlimited activities as the preparation has already begun to mark the momentous year. An opportunity to partake in various activities, not as a mere spectator, but as a participant yourself.
Visitors will also be given access to some of the areas of historical interests which were closed to tourist in the past.
