PEOPLE

There are three broad ethnic groups in Bhutan, the Sharchopas, the Ngalopas and the Lhotshampas. In the higher regions of eastern and northern Bhutan there are some nomadic people known as the Bjops.

LANGUAGE

Dzongkha is the official and national language. A large number of dialects are also spoken. English is understood and spoken by most of the people as it is the medium of educational instruction. All tour guides and hotel staffs speak fluent English. Some guides are even trained to speak Japanese, French and Spanish.
